　　Suliman and three further members of the ‘Sudanese Film Club’ have decided to revive an old cinema. They are united not only by their love of cinema and their passionate desire to restore old film stock and draw attention to Sudanese film history once more, but also by the fact that they have all enjoyed a film education in exile. Tirelessly, they try to get the cinema’s owners on their side and make the place operational again, but repeatedly find themselves up against considerable resistance. In the meantime, they sit together and talk about the past – including their experiences of persecution and even torture as oppositional artists. They also read out old letters written while in exile and dream of a Sudan in which art and intellectual thought can be free. ‘We are smarter than them, but not as strong,’ is how they unanimously summarise their situation. It is in laconic moments such as these that the viewer is able to perceive the friendship, as well as the bond and ideological solidarity that exists in the struggle for common ideals.
　　Suhaib Gasmelbari puts the history of Sudanese cinema at the centre of his film and at the same time sheds light on the current situation in a country shaken by ongoing crises.

　　The film accompanies Magaye Niyang, a star of Touki-Bouki, a 1972 classic directed by her own uncle Djibril Diop. Following this path, we are witness of Niyang travel to a special screening of the film, which has a public release in his old town. Niyang seems detached and with a heavy longing from the past, and therefore, the film debris permeates everything with unescapable sorrow and fascination.
　　Diop film is, first and foremost, a nostalgic travel through memory, time and recreation. It is also a watermark in contemporary experimental documentary, a very intimate portrait of a lost long journey through the past that isn’t returning anymore, a detachment of rejected fame, recognition and connection which is heavily grounded on a legacy that belongs to the past, and that connects directly to a country (Senegal) and its heritage, which is sometimes feel excruciating for the old ones (a testimony such as the taxi scene in the film, where the cab driver longs for changes, and claims that the old generation had done nothing for that).
　　Mille Soleils (A Thousand Suns) and, in itself, Mati Diop’s crucial talent, should be a point of reference into what could easily be one of the most interesting proposals of hybrid documentary cinema which has come from France, and which deals with a strong African heritage. Since 35 Rhums, where she proved her actress talent, Diop seems like a true promise for the following years of cinema.

　　Toujours plus abondante et moins chère, la nourriture industrielle a envahi nos assiettes, avec des incidences sur la santé de plus en plus fortes : jamais l'obésité et le diabète n'ont été aussi répandus. Et jamais les étiquettes n'ont été aussi compliquées à déchiffrer. Pour percer les secrets du secteur agroalimentaire, Maud Gangler et Martin Blanchard sont eux-mêmes devenus… des industriels. Avec l’aide d’un laboratoire alimentaire spécialisé en recherche et développement, ils se lancent dans la production d'un plat populaire : le cordon bleu. Un projet offensif qui leur permet de comprendre de l’intérieur les rouages de l’ultratransformé, où la fabrication d’un produit en apparence simple tient de l’assemblage complexe. Se jouant des frontières, l’industrie agroalimentaire se révèle diaboliquement novatrice, usant de technologies toujours en avance sur les réglementations et d’astuces marketing rodées, ou s’aidant de puissants lobbies pour servir ses intérêts. Les autorités nationales et européennes s'avouent techniquement débordées et peinent à contrôler les substances toxiques qu'elles ont commencé par autoriser. Pourtant, l'espoir d’un changement qualitatif est impulsé par la société civile : sous la pression des consommateurs et d’applications de notation alimentaire comme Yuka, certains industriels cherchent à mieux faire pour bénéficier d’un "clean label" auquel s’attache le grand public. Réduction du nombre d'ingrédients, abandon d’additifs, choix de protéines végétales : une démarche vertueuse qui tourne parfois au casse-tête, quand elle n'aboutit pas à un effet inverse, avec des plats végans à la qualité sanitaire douteuse. Au menu de cette enquête riche mais remarquablement digeste, experts, nutritionnistes, docteurs en sciences des aliments ou consultants en "transformation positive" éclairent une question devenue cruciale : que mange-t-on aujourd'hui ?
